10 Things

These are just a few of the things I've been doing lately and wanted to share with you!
- That awesome (Beach Boys-esque) vocal sound in a Raspberries track! Overnight Sensation! 1974??? What? John Lennon had something to do with the Production?
- π΅βπ« I came up with what I call Audio Algorithm Gaggles. Instead of spending who-knows-how-long on TikTok, I take a slice of audio from the stream and feed it into my ears. I've imagined that doing so inoculates me from being pulled into the void. (kinda like the Aaron Rodgers experience π) I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments. https://www.yourmusicdna.com/audio/
- ππ» No Broke Boys! Disco Lines & Tinashe. This track is a legit earworm. Just what you needed, right? π§
- π§’ I mixed an hour of Jazz music. I used select tracks from GoGo Penguin, Tingvall Trio, Portico Quartet, Mammal Hands, & Matthew Halsall. It was interesting. I titled it "Thinking in Jazz".
- π΅π The Evolution of Philippine Music is a great article by Jingo Quijano on Substack. "Today, streaming platforms amplify both the hyper-local (think Bisrock in Cebu ) and the universal (OPM songs scoring high on Spotify charts). Music Festivals often feature indie bands alongside international acts. Itβs now commonplace to see traditional instruments like the βhegalongβ and βkudyapβ being used,TikTok showing that the trajectory of our sound is cyclical, a constant return to our roots even as we reach outward."
- π§ Yeah, you could argue that for some DJs, money is no object. Carl Cox would be one.... but take a look a bit deeper, while he explains what he does. He's amazing. It's the reason I'm going to upgrade to a 4-channel controller ASAP. Wow!
- π I've been having loads of fun doing mixes for YouTube using DJ.Studio. It's a new (actively developing) application that is meant to mix music in a very different way than most DJ software (Serato, yadda, yadda).
- π§ When I began mixing some meditative tracks back when I was streaming the series over Twitch, I was creating a vibe, very different from even the downtempo or Lo-Fi Genre. I called it Good Morning Somewhere. I'll upload an example of this for next week's 10 Things. In the meantime, something in the same vein, The Island of Peaceful Riffs, including beautiful beta fish.
- ποΈ Leaving Space For Feeling by Grant Snider on Incidental Comics on Substack is a nice stop for your week. You're welcome.
- π Everyone should have a CoolSound. Here's my favorite three. Which one do you like?
